About OceanVolts

Coastal engineering specialists for island coastlines

OceanVolts is a coastal and marine engineering consultancy based in Phoenix, Mauritius. Our mission is to defend and restore south-west Indian Ocean coastlines using science-led, survey-first methods — starting with data, not assumptions.

Our approach

Every project starts with a survey, not a proposal. Decisions on how to protect or restore a coastline are made from measured data — bathymetry, wave conditions, sediment behaviour — rather than generic templates. Where a nature-based solution can do the job, we design one; where the site demands an engineered structure, we design that instead. Permitting is handled end to end alongside the technical work, not as an afterthought.

Our capabilities

OceanVolts brings the full technical sequence of a coastal project under one roof: MetOcean data analysis, numerical wave and sediment modelling, EIA and PER permitting, reef and erosion-control system design, and long-term environmental monitoring. See the complete breakdown on our services page.

In-house, OceanVolts owns and operates a professional multibeam echo sounder system for high-resolution 3D seabed mapping — capturing hundreds of depth measurements simultaneously across a wide swath of up to 120° via 240 beams, at 160kHz wideband frequency, over a 10–300m survey range depending on site conditions. It delivers real-time seabed visualisation, water-column imaging and backscatter data for seabed classification and habitat assessment, and underpins our hydrographic surveys, EIA investigations, dredging surveys, navigation channel mapping, port and harbour surveys, and coral reef and marine habitat mapping.

We also operate an ocean data buoy system that continuously measures water pressure, current velocity, compass heading and wave height at sea, with built-in real-time processing for wave direction, current velocity and spectral analysis — characterising the MetOcean conditions that feed directly into our numerical wave modelling and EIA baseline studies. Topographic, beach-profile and sub-10m nearshore surveys are carried out by subcontracted third-party registered surveyors.
